Are Most White Cat With Blue Eyes Deaf
Once again the brilliant scientist was right since between 56 and 90 of cats according to different studies with white coat and blue eye color are deaf from one or both ears.
Are most white cat with blue eyes deaf. So not all white cats are deaf and not all blue-eyed white cats are deaf but a great many of them are so-affected. Furthermore if a cat has one blue eye and one green the ear on the side of the blue eye is more likely to be deaf than the other. A cat with dominant genes of white fur may have blue or orange eyes while the albino cat may have blue or pink eyes.
Two blue eyes completely deaf. 40 percent of white cats with one blue eye were deaf. White color of the coat occurs in cats in the following three ways.
In fact only 85 of white cats are born with blue eyes while the rest of the white cats are born with brown eyes or some other color. And 65 to 85 percent of white cats with two blue eyes were deaf. Interestingly most white cats regardless of eye color exhibit a special kind of deafness.
However not all white cats with blue eyes are deaf. What is the risk of deafness in a white cat. White cats with blue eyes had a high probability.
But kittens have blue eyes due to a genetic mutation that happens during the development. I do not recall what the odds are for a M cat who is both blue-eyed and white to be deaf sorry. Interestingly deaf cats who are white and have blue eyes make up around just 1-15 of the total cat population.
Strangely blue eye white cats tend to be deaf even more than others. Thus deafness is strongly linked to the white coat colour and blue eye colour but not all white cats or white cats with blue eyes are necessarily deaf. Having bi-colored eyes cuts the odds but i am not sure how much.
